Philly Cheesesteak Pizza

Everyone has their old stand-by when they go to a restaurant. You know, that thing you get when you can't make up your mind or that you know they can't screw up. I'm a 'BLT' kind of girl. My friend Chris is a 'Club House hold the tomatoes' kind of guy. And my husband, Josh? He's a 'Philly Cheesesteak sandwich' kind of guy...so this pizza was created with him in mind.

Whole-wheat pizza crust
1/2 large red onion, sliced
1/2 green pepper, sliced
1 Tlbsp oil
2 Tblsp soya sauce
2 Tblsp white vinegar
1/3 Cup of ketchup
4-5 squirts of Frank's Red Hot Sauce
1 Tblsp marmalade
2 Tblsp brown Sugar
1/2 tsp parsley
1/2 tsp oregano
1-2 cups of steak, cut into strips
1-1 1/2 cups of mozzarella cheese, grated

Stretch dough to pan and set aside.

Sautée onions and green pepper over medium heat until cooked, but not too 'floppy'. Remove from pan and set aside.

Lower heat under the same pan to low and add all the other ingredients, except the steak, stirring to combine. Allow the flavours to combine for approximately 5 minutes.

Add the steak to the pan, toss with sauce, and increase temperature to medium. Cook for approximately 5 minutes, until steak is medium to medium rare.

Top crust with steak and sauce from pan and spread evenly. Top with onions and green pepper, followed by grated mozzerella.

Bake at 350' for approximately 30 minutes, or until crust is desired colour.

I've never been to Philly, but real philly cheese steak apparently has processed cheese like Cheese Whiz. I am not a fan of stuff like that, so I just swapped in some mozzarella. If you are a little more tolerant of the un-cheese though, go nuts with it!

As a time saver, you could certainly just cook the steak in your favourite BBQ sauce. I basically made a sweet-hot BBQ sauce to start with, but your favourite sauce would be just grand, I'm sure!
